Rudy is on HOLD

1/1/18:
Quick update on Rudy from his Foster mom...

Rudy is doing pretty well. He's up to 52 lbs... WOOT WOOT!

After his setback, he was on 2 antibiotics and prednisone. He has been doing great and eating really well! He is done with his antibiotics now, and he saw the orthopedic doctor on the 29th. After a thorough examination, the doctor is still not seeing anything specifically wrong, other than some minor tenderness in his spine. (Oh, if only they could talk to you.) The plan moving forward is to wean him off the steroid and see how he does. If he shows any sign of a setback, we will need to move forward with the MRI of his spine. The doctor wants him off the steroid for at least a week before they perform the MRI, so that they can also take fluid from around the spine to check for inflammation. There is still a chance that this is all related to him being severely emaciated and will improve with more muscle gain... So fingers crossed...

On a lighter note, doc said his weight looks good, he just needs to build more muscle. And for that we are continuing his swim lessons. He's doing really well with that now, though I don't think he's "thrilled" with it... :) Thank you to all that donated for his lessons... We really appreciate it!

Rudy is a really sweet, easy going, low maintenance, velcro dog... I don't think he's ever going to be a fanatic retriever, but he will fetch his hol-ee roller and bring it back, as long as he doesn't have any competition from the rest of my crew.

Hi Folks…Rudy checkin’ in again to let you know how I’m doing. I’m feeling A LOT better! Foster mom says all my blood work came back normal. Phew, thats a relief! … So for right now, I’m finishing up my icky pills. Actually, truth be told, I don’t really mind taking them, cause I get a really yummy thing called a satin ball when foster mom gives the pills to me.

I will go for a followup appointment when I am all done with all the medicine, and if the docs think I need an M
RI, then the awesome folks at L.E.A.R.N. will have one done.

In the meantime, foster mom says I’m getting stronger, and stronger every day since my “incident.”  I haven’t had any episodes, as foster mom calls them, for over a week now, and I’m back to trotting around the yard with a toy in my mouth. Have I mentioned that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Hollee Rollers? I overheard foster mom say that she is starting to think that she let me over do it the day before my incident and my muscles were just super sore the next few days…I dunno, maybe, but I also heard her say she’s going to be talking to the doctor about that possibility, when we go back to WVRC.

So today I got to do something fun… Well at least I enjoyed it towards the end…Foster mom took me swimming!!! She said that it will help me work my muscles without any impact.

So you know what I’d REALLY REALLY love for Christmas??? More swim lessons!! So, if anyone would like to donate to my Christmas present, that would be totally awesome!

Foster mom says, she’ll let me update again after my follow up appointment…Till then, I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Holiday season! I know I will…

Rudy out…

11/30/17

Howdy everyone! Rudy checking in…So, it seems that I’ve had what foster mom calls a “set back”.

On Sunday, I suddenly lost my ability to stand and walk…Foster mom, was very worried, so she took me to this place called WVRC. I had 2 docs check me out. I heard foster mom call one an Ortho something and the other was a Neuro something…The Ortho doc noticed that I have some tenderness in my lumbar…. whatever THAT is, but he didn’t think that was what was causing my problem, and the Neuro doctor mentioned something about a neuromuscular something or other.

Anyway, they drew some blood and sent it out for testing, and I came home with foster mom. I’ve been taking some medication, and I’m mostly back to my old self…Foster mom says I’m keeping her guessing…(who doesn’t like a little mystery in their life, right?

)

Just today, I heard her talking to someone on the phone, and she said that if all the tests come back negative, the next step will be something called an MRI of my spine… sounds scary (and expensive

)…but I’m tough, I can handle it.

So that’s what’s going on with me right now…no worries though, because foster mom and L.E.A.R.N. are taking super duper care of me!!

11/15/17

Hey Everyone! Rudy here! Foster mom says I need to update ya'll on how I'm doing. Well, I think I'm great! I've been hanging with my foster siblings for a little over 6 weeks now, and I'm having a blast! I love to wrestle pretty hard with Bogart, but he gives it back.  So we play really well. Bailey - I just chase around the yard when he's playing fetch... And well Gypsy, I pretty much just leave her alone. Foster mom says she's old, and I'd be wise to steer clear of her, so I do. :) Foster mom, says I'm smart that way and know when to behave...

My foster mom picks me up every few days (don't really care for that) to step on this thing with numbers. Don't know what that's all about, but she always says "Good boy Rudy Mcfruity" when she puts me down. And today I heard her tell foster dad that I'm up to 47 pounds! Guess I'm doing something right. :)

So, lately I've been noticing foster mom watching me closely when I'm running around the yard...Today she took me for a car ride... we ended up at the Vet's office!!!

(gasp) Actually, I don't really mind it there. I love everyone, even my Vets! Anyway, I digress.... Doc messed with my back end some, and then decided to lay me out flat on a table and wanted me to stay still. How humiliating... and it seems it was all for nothing! Everything on my back end looks ok. I heard the doc tell foster mom that my knees, hips and spine look good. There was something about my back end having a bit of a curve to it, but that could just be from poor nutrition. Doc told foster mom that I just don't have good conformation (whatever THAT is) and am a little bowlegged.  I heard foster mom say that's what gives me my character and charm... Well, of course I'm charming. :) The last thing I heard doc say is that I should keep running around to keep building more muscle. I can DO THAT!!

It looks like I'm gonna be hanging with my foster siblings for a few more months. I still have some weight to put on, but I can dig that cause I get all kinds of awesome treats and stuff during the day....

Oh ya, and foster mom is going to post a picture with a side-by-side of my intake photo and then the other day. She says that because she sees me everyday, it's hard for her to see a difference in me, and she needed to be reminded.

'Til next time... Rudy out!

10/14/17

Rudy saw the Vet this past Thursday. His blood work was all good. His stool sample was negative for all parasites, but we will do another recheck in a few weeks because of the different types that showed up in his first blood work. Other than needing to put on weight, he is a healthy, happy dog! He will be with us 2 weeks tomorrow, and he’s put on just about 4 lbs.

He continues to be a sweet, easy going dog. He sticks very close to his people, and his recall is great!
